As he took in one of the world's most spectacular sights, he may have wished someone special was there to share the view.

But Prince Harry's girlfriend Meghan Markle, was thousands of miles away and instead of enjoying breathtaking scenery, had to make do with more simple entertainment.

While her boyfriend was teetering on the edge of Guyana's Kaieteur Falls, which are 820ft high, Miss Markle, 35, was playing dress up with her dog and buying herself flowers.

And just in case Harry, 32, had forgotten her, the American actress chose a Union Jack themed coat for her pet Guy.

As Harry basked in 27C heat (81F), Miss Markle battled temperatures just above freezing in Toronto.

But she was seen beaming as she picked up a fresh bouquet of flowers in Toronto.

Teaming a nude coat with a simple pair of ripped black skinny jeans, ballet pumps and a woolen jumper, the actress clutched several bunches of fresh roses as she left a florist.

And writing on social media, she said of her dog's outfit: 'For the love of hand-me-downs. This was Bogart's sweater as a puppy. Now it's keeping Guy warm. #puppylove #adoptdontshop #reducereuserecycle.'

It came only hours after she was pictured supermarket shopping in Toronto wearing a baseball cap and green parka jacket and pushing a laden trolley through the car park.

Miss Markle, who often writes about her love of the simple things in life, was seen stocking up on basics such as kitchen roll and water during the outing.

Yesterday, the prince completed his final engagements as part of a 15-day tour of the Caribbean on behalf of the Queen.

His final days were spent in Guyana, the only English-speaking country in South America which became independent from Britain in 1966.

He flew over Kaieteur, one of the highest freefall waterfalls in the world, before landing at a tourist centre a few hundred metres away.

Not content with observing from afar, an intrepid Prince Harry wandered up to the edge of the falls, which are not blocked off by any barriers.

On the small outcrop of rock, he was given a close up view of the rushing water with its deafening sound filling his ears.

He leaned a little forward to look at the ground below but then grimaced and shook his hands in mock horror.

Earlier in the day, the prince had followed in his father's footsteps as he donned a feather headdress in the rainforest village of Surama.

Prince Charles had worn a similar piece when he visited in 2000. But, unlike his father, when performers began a love dance, Harry declined offers to take part, instead nodding and clapping to the music.

The fifth in line to the throne was last night due to fly back to Britain and is expected to see Suits star Miss Markle ahead of the festive period.
