When to use this DIY Paw Balm

Your dog’s paw may be more prone to dryness during certain times of years depending on where you live. If you have a harsh winter you’ll find the most benefits during that time.

However, if summer temperatures are something you dread your dog might experience dry paws the worst during this time.

This paw balm is so quick and easy to make you can have it on hand all year round.

Another benefit of paw balm is that is add a protective layer your dog’s paw against environmental factors.

The wax and oils coat the paw, so if they step in a puddle or sludge in the street you can easily wipe it off.

I know I don’t want step into a puddle full of run off from the road, but my dog is not concerned about the chemicals at all.

For this recipe we decided to use mango butter, along with beeswax, coconut oil, and olive oil. The only thing that can’t be substituted for something else is the beeswax.

We chose mango butter since it is nut free. However, if you have Shea butter you can use that instead. Do not substitute the mango butter for cocoa butter.

The last thing you want is your dogs to lick their paws and get sick. You can melt the ingredients over the stove or in a double boiler, but we went with the microwave for simplicity.

Ingredients:

Directions:
1) Combine all the ingredients into a glass containers.
2) Microwave until melted stirring every 30 seconds to prevent burning. It took us about 3 minutes for all the beeswax to melt.
3) Pour into small containers with lids. Make sure your pet’s paw will fit into the containers you choose. They can be tin, plastic, or glass.
4) Let the paw balm cool completely before add the lid. Store in a cool dry place that is easy to reach when needed.
